EMMI
Ethical Merchant & Maker Index
Make the good local option legible. EMMI is a public discovery layer for finding Australian businesses by what they make, repair, grow, manufacture or supply — and by the documented practices that matter to the person searching.

A public index, not a mall.
EMMI exists so independent Australian businesses can be found by what they actually make, repair, grow, manufacture or supply — and by the documented practices that matter to the person searching. Households use it to find a jeweller, a plant stall, a repairer. Businesses use the same graph to find a fabricator or a supplier.
EMMI is a guide, not a marketplace: find independent Australian makers, then complete the purchase on the maker’s own site. A general “ships Australia-wide” sentence is unknown for a specific postcode; the honest label is to check with the maker.
It is a Social Services platform in the SOCii family: the product lives at emmi.socii.au, and identity sits with the shared SOCii Account layer rather than a one-off marketplace login invented for this catalogue alone.
How evidence works
Discovery, not a marketplace
EMMI helps people find Australian merchants, makers, manufacturers, suppliers and repairers. It does not take the order, hold the stock, or set the price. Independent businesses stay independent storefronts.
Evidence instead of a universal score
A practice such as Australian-made, repairable, low-waste or transparent sourcing is a claim with evidence, source and freshness. People choose which attributes are required, preferred or excluded for their own search.
Unknown stays unknown
Missing evidence is not silently converted into a negative judgement. Conflicting, stale and partially supported claims remain visible as distinct verification states.
A business claim is not a product claim
Australian-made, handmade and similar words appear on a product only when that product record states them. A locally owned shop can sell an imported product without that product becoming Australian made.
Place has precision
A verified public premises, a locality-level operating base, a regional service area and an online-only Australian business are different location states. EMMI does not infer a street marker from a vague location claim.
The same graph for households and businesses
The same evidence model supports a household looking for a repairer and a business looking for a local fabricator, supplier or production capability. Intent changes discovery, not the underlying facts.
Using the index
01
Search the index
Look across products, makers, departments, markets, repair services and the map. Records are added as an index, not as a popularity ranking.
02
Read the evidence
Handmade, Australian-made and similar words appear only where the product or maker record states them. Delivery to a postcode is confirmed, unavailable, or unknown.
03
Buy from the maker
You complete the purchase on the maker’s own site, stall or shop page. EMMI is the guide. The maker is the merchant.
