Independent civic tools
for Australia

SOCii is an independent, not-for-profit Australian organisation building open, data-driven tools for public accountability, housing reform, and democratic transparency.

Civic tools built for the public interest

SOCii builds and maintains two major public platforms, both free, both independent, and both designed to strengthen Australian democracy through open data and transparent methodology.

A-GIC
Australian General Independent Census

A fully independent, community-driven census platform that gives every Australian a voice, outside of government timelines and institutional constraints.

Who is this for?

For researchers, journalists, community organisations, and everyday Australians who want civic data collected independently, transparently, and on their terms.

Public interest

A-GIC exists because democratic accountability requires data that isn't controlled by the institutions it measures. Independent census data strengthens public debate and informs better policy.

AIM-HR
Australian Independent Model for Housing Reform

An open, transparent housing reform modelling tool that lets Australians explore the real impacts of housing policy using data, not ideology.

Who is this for?

For policy analysts, housing advocates, local councils, academics, and anyone who wants to understand how housing supply, planning rules, and market forces interact.

Public interest

AIM-HR makes housing data accessible and modelling transparent, so public debate about housing reform is grounded in evidence rather than political talking points.

About SOCii

SOCii PTY LTD is an Australian not-for-profit civic technology organisation. We build open, independent, data-driven tools that help Australians hold institutions accountable, understand public policy, and participate meaningfully in democratic life.

We were founded on a simple conviction: that the tools used to understand public life (census data, housing models, policy analysis) should not be controlled exclusively by the institutions they are designed to measure.

SOCii is not affiliated with any political party, government agency, media organisation, or commercial interest group. We are funded and governed independently, and our commitment is to the Australian public, without exception, without favour.

Our approach is grounded in open methodology, reproducible analysis, and genuine accessibility. We believe that civic technology should be available to everyone, from academic researchers and policy professionals to journalists, community advocates, and everyday Australians.

Independence

SOCii operates independently of political parties, government agencies, and commercial lobby groups. Our tools are built to serve the public, not any institutional agenda.

Transparency

Every methodology, model, and dataset we use is open for scrutiny. We believe that public tools must be publicly accountable, from data collection to policy modelling.

Data-driven

Our platforms are built on evidence, not opinion. We use rigorous quantitative methods and open data to ensure that the tools we build produce reliable, defensible results.

Public benefit

SOCii is a not-for-profit. We don't sell data, we don't run advertising, and we don't exist to generate shareholder returns. Every dollar goes back into building tools that serve Australians.

Governance & Trust

SOCii is built on principles of transparency, accountability, and public service. Here is how we earn and maintain your trust.

Data ethics

We collect only what is necessary, anonymise by default, and never sell or monetise user data. Our data practices are designed to meet or exceed the requirements of the Australian Privacy Act 1988.

Privacy-first design

Privacy is not an afterthought. It is a core design constraint. Our platforms minimise data collection, use encryption in transit and at rest, and give users clear control over their information.

Open methodologies

Every model, algorithm, and statistical method we use is documented and open for review. We publish our assumptions, limitations, and data sources so that our results can be independently verified.

Accessibility commitment

All SOCii platforms are built to meet WCAG 2.2 AA standards. We design for keyboard navigation, screen readers, reduced motion preferences, and high-contrast readability. Civic tools must be available to everyone.

Our commitment

SOCii PTY LTD (ACN 690 364 731) is governed as a not-for-profit entity under Australian law. We do not accept funding that compromises our independence, and we do not engage in political advocacy. Our sole purpose is to build and maintain civic technology that serves the Australian public.
